A fairly hefty batch of new lenses are heading to Las Vegas, with new releases from NiSi, Laowa, Tamron, Fujinon, Tokin Cinema, and Atlas all in the frame.
New lens announcements are coming in hot as NAB 2024 approaches. So we have a cool new collection of glass, including more cine primes added to the NiSi ATHENA lineup; Laowa launching the Ranger S35 Compact Cine Zoom set; Tamron releasing a version of a zoom for the Nikon Z; New Orions from Atlas; Tokina Cinema adding new lenses to the Vista-P range; and FUJINON's latest.
We recently introduced you to NiSi’s affordable ATHENA Cine Prime lenses featuring 14mm T2.4, 25mm T1.9, 35mm T1.9, 50mm T1.9, and 85mm T1.9. Now they’ve rounded out the set with an 18mm T2.2, 40mm T1.9, and 135mm T2.2.
These fast cine primes are for full-frame sensor cameras (with an image circle up to 46mm), and feature low chromatic aberration. They are lightweight and easy to carry in a case, especially if you have the entire set.
You can purchase the entire set of 8 NiSi ATHENA Cine Primes for $8,999, a bargain considering higher end lenses retail for double that per lens. Each lens is priced at $1268.

The new Laowa Ranger S35 Compact Cine Zoom set comes with three lenses, 11-18mm T2.9, 17-50mm T2.9, and 50-130mm T2.9, and features an over 11x zoom range and smaller-than-phone form factor.
Seven mounts will be available: PL, EF, E, RF, X, L, and Z.
Each lens weighs around 1.7lbs (700-800g), proving a decent combination of portability and flexibility to use them with gimbals, car rigs, or simple handheld setups. Pricing is TBA but shipping is expected to be three months.

The Tamron 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 lens was released in 2018 specifically for Sony E cameras. They’ve now released a version for Nikon Z-mount cameras, giving shooters and photographers another nice option.
Tamron’s 28-75mm F/2.8 Di III VXD G2 lens includes a constant aperture of F/2.8, very quick VXD linear focusing motor, and works with full-frame cameras.
The new version of the lens will retail for $999 and will be shipping in mid-April 2024. Details here.
When thinking about ENG, whether it’s news or sports coverage or documentaries, FUJINON lenses usually spring to mind. The company unveiled their new Duvo HZK14-100mm zoom lens with a PL mount, ideal for cameras specializing in ENG work.
The FUJINON Duvo HZK14-100mm zoom lens features:
The FUJINON Duvo HZK14-100mm joins two other Duvo portable zoom lenses with native PL mount support, the Duvo HZK24-300mm and Duvo HZK25-1000mm.
Pricing hasn’t been released yet, but the lens will be featured by FUJINON at NAB 2024. There is some speculation it could retail for $25-30,000. Stay tuned for FUJINON's site for more information.
Tokina Cinema unveiled more lenses to be added to its Vista-P Range, including 40mm T1.5, 65mm T1.5, 105mm T1.5, and 135mm T1.5. The lineup also includes 18mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm. This is nice and complete lineup of cine prime lenses for any cinematographer or rental house.
The new Vista-P cine primes have a nice vintage look around the edges of the image while maintaining high resolution at the center. These are modified Vista lenses (handled in Japan at the Tokina Cinema factory). The glass is geared towards full-frame and VistaVision cameras. Supported mounts include PL, Sony E, LPL, EF, and MFT.
These lenses aren't cheap like the NiSi ATHENA Cine Primes: The 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 85mm cost $7,499 a piece; the 18mm, 40mm, 65mm, and 105mm will set you back $8,999 each; and the 135mm costs $9,999.

The new Atlas Lens Co $17,995 Orion 18mm T2 features a 140º horizontal field-of-view – the widest horizontal field-of-view of any Cinemascope format 35mm motion picture camera lens in production. It is available in both PL and EF mount and Atlas says it “delivers painterly oval bokeh, alluring barrel distortion, and dynamic streak flares.”
It covers 4-Perf Film for 2.40:1 Cinemascope Aspect Ratio Deliverable, and 16:9 from Alexa LF Format mode (full Height). It also covers full-frame formats edge-to-edge with the Atlas 1.6x LF Extender & Atlas 1.4x LF Extender.
The Orion Series 135mm T2.2 covers well beyond Anamorphic 4 Perf Film Format into 2.40:1 delivery in Full Frame on both film and digital camera systems. It has a FOV of 20.9°, and delivers incredibly close focus from the image plane: 3.5 feet / 106.68 cm. Cost is $14,995.
Also at $14,995 is the Orion 200 mm T3.2 2x Anamorphic Lens, the longest focal length in the Orion Series family.
It’s a bit of a monster at 9 lbs / 4kg and it has a minimum focusing distance of 3.5 feet / 106.68 cm. The lens covers edge-to-edge full-frame, large format, or Vistavision on both film and digital camera systems. It can become a 280mm by adding the Atlas 1.4x Expander or a 320mm in combination with the 1.6x LF Extender. If you use the 2X Telephoto Extender it will become a 400mm, described by Orion as “an insane 400mm of Anamorphic Glory.”
All of which means that the Orion series now covers an impressive range of 18/21/25/28/32/40/50/65/80/100/135/200 focal lengths.
